SDO Batanes Enjoins with President Marcos in Online Session

Basco, Batanes οΏ½ President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. participated in an online "Kumustahan" today, June 19, 2025, hosted by the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT). This session, dubbed "GIDA" (Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Areas), aimed to assess internet connectivity in geographically challenged schools and discuss the preparation of schools for the School Year 2025-2026. Selected schools nationwide participated.

Chanarian Elementary School in Batanes, under the Schools Division Office (SDO) of Batanes, was among the participating schools, underscoring the government's dedication to reaching even the most remote areas.

During a technical run for the event, the Department of Education (DepEd) Central Office connected with all participating schools to identify their immediate needs. Evelyn Tagulao, Principal of Chanarian Elementary School, highlighted the crucial need for a computer laboratory to enhance students' learning, especially given the internet connectivity.

President Marcos emphasized the urgent need to expand internet coverage and address underlying issues such as electricity supply, which remains a significant barrier to digital access. Collaboration among other agencies was also highlighted.
